This Life: From Child Actors (667)
Soo-hyeon found a familiar name and was the first to click on the work.
The title is ‘Vacation’.
It was a movie about what the main character, Hail-taek, who works in the United States, experiences while coming to Korea for summer vacation.
‘When you go on vacation, you have a leisurely image, but as long as it has an action genre attached to it, something happens.’
Soo-hyeon read the script with some anticipation.
‘Il-taek’, who came to Korea on vacation, rents a villa from a friend and spends time in a quiet place.
One day, while he was straining his body and mind, the friend who rented the house brought a girl late at night and asked Il-taek to take care of him for a few days.
‘daughter? Are you trying to kidnap me because I’m single? Seeing as there is no one I can trust but you, it could be a different story.’
Although it is annoying, ‘Il-taek’ ends up living in the same house with the girl as it is his friend’s request.
The girl didn’t know how to speak, so she only made strange noises, and although ‘Il-taek’ said it was annoying, she built a bond with the girl and got along well.
‘It was healing up to this point, but suddenly my friend died.’
‘Il-taek’, who was getting along well with an unknown girl despite bickering with her, learns that his friend has died while watching the news.
The friend’s face was broadcast along with the news that a researcher at a certain research facility had died.
Feeling at a loss, Iltaek wondered whether he should find the child’s parents even now.
‘Il-taek’ could not easily go to the police because he accepted the bruises on his forearms, injection marks, and slow speech development as signs of abuse.
‘And kidnapping.’
Soo-hyeon turned over the script at a fast pace.
The place where ‘Iltaek’ worked was a private military company that mainly focused on military supply.
To put it simply, ‘Iltaek’, a mercenary company, was a veteran, or human weapon, who participated in various operations and made great achievements.
Since such a person had taken the child he was so attached to, the next development was obvious.
“It’s a bit of a cliche, but it’s cool. “It will depend on how the action is planned, but I will definitely take care of the visual beauty.”
I don’t have any connections in Korea, but it’s impossible for someone who worked at a military company to know a broker.
Just imagining the sight of ‘Iltaek’ carrying out the operation alone… or rather, the mercenary ‘Hail’, was enough to thrill me.
“I thought you might like it.”
“Yes, I like it. “It sounds good, but it takes some time to film.”
After checking the script to the end, Su-hyeon opened the synopsis on the back page and shrugged her shoulders.
I wondered why there was a piece of paper that should have been right behind the cover, but the script was the bait.
“The filming will completely overlap in two weeks.”
The filming period for ‘Vacation’ was similar to that of ‘July Concert’, which started 14 days later.
Since it was the sole lead role, it was obvious that even if consideration was given to the schedule, the actor would have to travel to the set multiple times.
‘The problem is that I have trouble getting a car right now… It’s annoying.’
Su-hyeon was angry that her body was not responding as intended.
A script I liked came along, but it was too much of a waste to miss it due to symptoms like carsickness.
‘Should I take some medicine? I take sleep-inducing pills and sleep in the car… but I still feel like I waste the time I spend in the car.’
Su-hyeon looked at the scheduled filming date with a serious expression and wondered what she could do to achieve satisfactory results.
I was so unlucky that a script that suited my taste came in at this timing.
“For now… I’ll meet Professor Jang the day after tomorrow and then decide.”
Suhyun stared at the tablet with eyes full of lingering regret and decided on a direction.
I hoped that the annoying symptoms would be resolved quickly.
* * *
“Hello, this is Jang Young-seon.”
“Hello, this is Kang Soo-hyun.”
“Yes, Kang Soo-hyun. nice to meet you.”
Two days after shelving the decision on ‘vacation’, Soo-hyeon met Professor Jang in his car.
It was believed that it would be better for security to receive counseling in the car rather than renting a separate location, but even Professor Jang, who was reluctant, could not break Su-hyeon’s will.
“Are you okay in the car?”
“yes. “If the engine doesn’t start, I feel trembling or feeling uneasy…”
Answering Professor Jang’s words step by step, Su-hyeon explained the symptoms she was feeling.
Nausea such as carsickness, chills and tremors when the car speeds up, slightly increased heart rate, etc.
There were no fatal symptoms such as difficulty breathing, but the reaction was enough to cause difficulty in getting into a car.
“I see… I heard that you took sleeping pills when you came here.”
“Because that kind of reaction doesn’t happen while you’re sleeping. “The effect of the inducer was better than I expected.”
“I received an explanation from the manager, but can I check again what medication you took?”
“yes. “This is it.”
While talking with Soo-hyeon, Professor Jang calmly organized the chart.
I was curious about what the smart pen was writing as it moved busily on the tablet, but Su-hyeon kept smiling.
I didn’t want to show that the relationship between counselor and client was broken.
‘They say that psychotherapy begins with revealing oneself… but it’s still difficult.’
While answering the questions thoroughly, Suhyun suppressed a bitter smile.
The fear of vehicles that arose after hearing Hani’s accident was a symptom based on the accident before the regression.
A phobia that arises from the moment of an accident remaining in the unconscious even if one cannot remember it.
I couldn’t say this out loud.
‘At that moment, other mental illnesses will be suspected.’
What’s hard to make up is that Soo-hyun has been working as an actor since she was five years old, and Crown knew that she had never been in any car accidents.
Even if I said something like, ‘I almost got into a serious accident here,’ it would only sound like a lie.
‘I thought there would be a problem like this… but I guess it can’t be fixed without spewing out the truth.’
Su-hyeon was an active but uncooperative patient.
Since he knew this, he asked Professor Jang about various treatment methods he found on the Internet.
Exposure therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, drug therapy, etc…
Su-hyeon’s constantly leaking attitude may have been annoying, but Professor Jang explained it kindly and easily in a soft voice.
“Soohyun, you have a very active personality. “It takes a lot of courage to face your fears, but it’s really cool.”
“Because it was a symptom that appeared suddenly, I felt it was annoying rather than scary. “Anyway, then, was the way I did it wrong?”
“There is a saying that the farther you go, the better you have to go back, right? “It is certainly tedious to go through each step step by step, but just as a fish needs to be mixed when placed in a new tank, the human mind also requires time and patience when getting used to something.”
“It’s difficult…”
Su-hyeon’s expression clouded after hearing that short-term treatment was difficult.
If this was the case, I thought it would be better to give up appearing on ‘Vacation’.
‘It’s unfortunate, but it’s something we can’t overdo. Would it have been okay if I had found out about Mr. Hani’s accident later?’
Soo-hyun recalled Hani, who was giving a passionate performance on set.
Although her ribs were cracked, Hani arrived at the scene a few days later.
Due to the nature of the cracked area, she had to rely on natural treatment and as long as she didn’t overexert herself, it wouldn’t interfere with her activities. She was healthy, except for occasionally laughing out loud and clutching her chest.
‘I saw that the injured person was alive and well, but he wasn’t getting better.’
It was fortunate that Hani was able to participate in the schedule without difficulty, but Su-hyeon could not be completely happy.
It felt unfair that the person who had been in an accident couldn’t ride alone in a car that he often drove.
“I heard that Soo-hyeon is worried about appearing in her latest work.”
While he was lost in thought, Professor Jang mentioned ‘vacation’.
Su-hyeon nodded strongly, perhaps because it was the biggest reason she became more active in treatment.
I needed a way to see results quickly, even during periods of overlapping filming.
“In fact, drug treatment for phobias is not effective and is just a stopgap measure… Even so, I think treatment that is intended to not interfere with daily life is meaningless if it does not protect that daily life.”
“Professor, perhaps…?”
“First, I will prescribe three doses of tranquilizer.”
Professor Jang’s expression darkened even as he proposed a short-term solution.
Although it was a decision he had no choice but to make for Su-hyeon’s sake, he didn’t seem to like the way he was covering it up.
“Medication may feel okay at the moment, but it is not a fundamental treatment. Above all, tranquilizers have the side effect of reducing concentration.”
Professor Jang, who had only responded positively to Soo-hyeon’s questions and answers, spoke negatively for the first time while explaining the drug.
Su-hyeon nodded, looking a little hesitant, wondering if this was how side effects were originally explained.
“Thank you for your continued support.”
“Please take care of me.”
Suhyeon ended the consultation with a handshake and parted ways with the professor with a lighter heart.
Even though it wasn’t a perfect solution, I was satisfied that I didn’t have to give up what I wanted.
* * *
‘I can’t believe I’m taking drugs.’
Su-hyeon swallowed his saliva as he looked at the medicine placed in his palm.
The drug Professor Jang prescribed was a type of benzodiazepine, which was prescribed through a general prescription but was slightly addictive.
Although it is said to be the most commonly prescribed drug in psychiatrists because it has few side effects, it is true that it is a bit unpleasant.
“Myan.”
“Noogul, your brother is a bit busy, so let’s play later.”
“Nyaaaang! “Nyan!”
“Our raccoon isn’t listening well today. huh?”
“Mya-.”
Su-hyeon, who was about to take her medicine before getting into the car, fell to her knees when a cute creature grabbed her at her feet.
Of course, I only stopped because I was worried that I might accidentally drop the only three pills, but I was never fascinated by the raccoon’s white belly.
“Nook, a cat shouldn’t give up its stomach easily. Easy cats are… cute. huh.”
“Nyaaa—.”
“Yes, yes, our raccoon is cute.”
When Su-hyeon gently scratched its belly, the raccoon cried softly, saying it was good.
It was so fluffy and soft that it was even warm, so Su-hyeon craved the raccoon’s stomach with a relaxed expression.
“Actor, it’s time to leave.”
“Ah yes.”
“The medicine…”
“I’m going to take it in the car.”
“It will take time for the effect to take effect.”
“Let’s move slowly at first.”
“…All right. “If you think things are not good, please let us know without delay.”
Because it was his first time relying on prescribed medication, a nervous look was evident on Soo-yeol’s face.
Suhyun seemed to be more determined than me, so she let out an awkward laugh.
Still, I felt reassured because there was someone who was so worried about me.
“Noogul, I’ll come back.”
“Nyaa.”
Su-hyeon took his hand away from the raccoon and walked towards the car.
As if this was a new experience, my heart was pounding strangely.
When I made up my mind and opened the car door.
“Myaaah.”
“You bastard!”
Before I knew it, the raccoon that followed me jumped into the car.
